Congrats to you, please send name and address to : TOMICblog@gmail.com so Magnolia can send you your secret prize!

Welcome to TOMIC new challenge : This week we want you to create a basket and to decorate it with Magnolia stamps. Here is a tutorial i made to give you some ideas. This tutorial is just for inspiration and of course you can create any basket you want as long as you use Magnolia stamps to decorate it.

This is the basket i am making a tutorial for. It's an easy made basket in 4 steps.
STEP 1
Cut out 2 flare dies (14x14cm) in cardstock. Choose a printed paper (here, i chose to use Magnolia "strawberry plaid") and cut out 2 other flare dies but somehow smaller than the first ones.
STEP 2
In the same cardstock, cut 2 pieces called A and 1 piece called B following the measurement of the picture.
STEP 3
You will now fix the sides you just prepared as shown in the picture and there you have the structure of the basket.
STEP 4
Make a handle cutting a 2x30cm band in the same cardstock and decorate it with lace on the sides and printed Magnolia paper inside (1cm large).Decorate the other side too for a greater effect. Fix this handle in the inside of the structure with 2 brads.

Decorate your basket as you want and fill with candies or scrap stuff to make someone really happy!!!

Please read the rules on the sidebar before submitting.
For instance remember that you are allowed to combine your entry to TOMIC with no more than 5 other challenges and please respect the theme of the challenge, otherwise you won't be eligible for the draw and that would be a shame to miss a chance to win the fabulous prize offered by Magnolia...

Challenge #19 - Magnolia for ever!

Hello Magnolia lovers!

Congrats to you Henny, please send your name and address to : TOMICblog@gmail.com so Magnolia can send you your special secret prize!

Welcome to the new TOMIC challenge : Magnolia Forever! Use a sitting Tilda or Edwin and at least one DooHickey die cut.

Please read the rules on the sidebar before submitting.

As our challenge this week includes the use of at least one DooHickey die cut, here's a step by step for those who may not have used dies. DooHickey dies are beautiful quality, intricately designed and will cut through a range of materials including patterned paper, cardstock, fabric including felt and lightweight chipboard.

Firstly some kind of die cutting machine will be required and there are several on the market, the most common are the Provocraft Cuttlebug and the Sizzix Big Shot. For this step by step a cuttlebug machine has been used.

Using the A, C, B plates (other machines will have a different way of stacking the plates) the scrap of gold card is placed on top and then the die on top of that cutting side down (this can be done with the die facing up and the card on top but I find it easier to place the die accurately on scraps this way).

The second B plate is placed on top to complete the stack.

Now I engage the stacked plates into the machine and turn the handle which pushes everything through the rollers and keep turning until the plates have gone completely through the machine. Depending on the material being used this can be repeated to ensure a good cut, for example on chipboard I would probably run the plates through four times as my machine is well used and the rollers slightly looser but you can check if the cut has been made and run it through again if you need to.

This is how the cut looks after running through the machine and before popping out of the card.

This photo shows the die cut gently pushed out of the surrounding card and you can see how beautiful the cut is with this delicate and pretty snowflake DooHickey.

For this die cut I used the DooHickey Peony Petal die and cut out the flower from a scrap piece of linen fabric. Once again the DooHickey cuts it beautifully with two passes through the machine.

Here I've used a scrap of lightweight chipboard, slightly thicker than breakfast cereal box weight card and cut it with the Peony Petal DooHickey, I passed it through the machine four times.

Here are the petals and snowflake die cuts layered up and we have the start of a pretty embellishment made from scraps which may otherwise have been thrown away. My tag below shows how the embellishment looks when finished.

And here are the creations of the Magnolia DT members joining this challenge. You can find all our blogs on the sidebar and see more gorgeous Magnolia creations!
